Milan Green Week and the role of the PolisMaker: UN Guidelines for Smart Cities
From September 26 to 27, Milan hosted Green Week, reaffirming the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability. At the same time, architect and urban planner Santiago Caprio played a prominent international role through his contribution to the development of the International Guidelines on People-Centred Smart Cities, a project led by UN-Habitat aimed at establishing a global framework for more human, inclusive, and sustainable smart cities.
As Co-Director of the PolisMaker Master’s Program at the Politecnico di Milano, Caprio brings a holistic vision that goes beyond a purely technological approach, promoting urban planning that places people at the center. His work advocates for the concept of Care Cities: cities that not only use technology to optimize resources but also prioritize quality of life, collective well-being, and human connection.
His contribution, together with the multidisciplinary perspective of the PolisMaker program, has been essential in shaping this international initiative that aspires to set a new urban paradigm on a global scale.
